Hudson River Museum

Kykuit
This mansion, high on a hill in North Tarrytown overlooking the Hudson, was home to four generations of Rockefellers, beginning with John D., founder of Standard Oil. Tours of the mansion (including a modern art collection), its splendid gardens, and its coach barn (housing vintage vehicles) are available by reservation through the Historic Hudson Valley organization. Your only chance of scoring a same-day opening is if you check with the Philipsburg Manor visitors center, (see listing below) from which Kykuit tours depart. Newington-Cropsey Foundation Gallery
Tucked away in a ravine near Hastings-on-Hudson's industrial waterfront, this complex of buildings in a mixture of Palladian and other elaborate architectural styles displays a large permanent collection of paintings by Jasper Cropsey, a leading 19th century painter of the Hudson River School, and changing exhibits of other artists' paintings. Washington Irving's Sunnyside
Led by guides in mid-Victorian garb, it's easy to drift back to yesteryear while touring Washington Irving's home.
